I may have a Guinness World Record.
I don’t know if they have “Longest Time to Start a Podcast” record, but if they do I have that locked in.
I first started planning a podcast in July 2014, and it pains me to say that it took nearly 7 years before I actually launched The Recognized Authority in April of 2021.
There were good reasons for delay… but probably not on the order of 7 years!
When I think how much further I’d be now if I had started 3 or 4 years earlier, I regret that the delay was quite so long.
We all delay taking action on creating content for many reasons, and many of those barriers are valid:
- “I don’t have time right now”
- “I’m not sure what to say”
- “I don’t know how to do it”
All valid, logical reasons not to take action. There are also underlying fears of criticism, exposure and looking silly. And a ton more barriers I haven’t listed here.
The thing is: you will never feel ready.
The only way to feel ready is to learn by doing.
It’s easy to kick the can down the road and say “I’ll take action next week/month/year”.
I’ve got the t-shirt – and possibly the Guinness trophy.
The first step on the road to authority is to publish something small. It might be a LinkedIn post, a blog post or even a short YouTube video.
Don’t make a big production of it – take a small step.
Every journey starts with a step.
What action are you taking in 2024? I’d love to hear about it.
And if you want my help with dealing with any of those barriers, hit reply and let me know.
I’ve made every mistake possible, I’d love to help you learn from my experiences with this to accelerate your journey to authority.

P.S. I recorded a YouTube showing the progression of my YouTube videos starting with a horribly cringe video from as far back as 2008. Watch the progression here.
